Numeracy Focus: Developing number sense

This sequence of three lessons, has students grappling with arrays of cupcakes to bake for the school canteen.

It sets out to build students’ multiplicative agility – their efficiency, flexibility and accuracy in multiplication.

Students develop conceptual understanding as they are challenged to find more than one way to show what they know.

Reasoning is evident as students share, justify and evaluate their own and others’ multiplicative strategies.
