General overview
This focus involves learners explore chance events and working with data in authentic contexts.
For
For data, learners at early levels move from interpreting and presenting simple data displays, to
At upper levels, students critically evaluate media and public-body data and statistics, including examining and explaining distributions and making conjectures about trends they may observe in the data.
Key ideas and language include understanding the random nature of naturally occurring events; the likelihood of an event or its expected outcome, and the variability in samples and populations.
Making conjectures about what learners expect to find, and then testing and reporting on these predictions are critical elements of understanding chance and data.
